Festival Brings in 1,000 Food Donations ; Visitors Gave Items Instead of Entry Fee Two Charities Benefit from Tins and Packets

KIND-HEARTED visitors to a food festival donated hundreds of tins and packets of food for needy families.

More than 1,000 items were collected by the organisers of Prestwich Food Festival in aid of two Greater Manchester charities.

SCANDAL Organisers asked people to bring a tin or packet in place of an entry fee to the event, held at The Longfield Suite. The donated food was given to charity Porch Boxes, which distributes food parcels to families in Rochdale, OF OUR HUNGRY CHILDREN Bolton and Bury.

FareShare North West, a distribution charity that delivers surplus food to good causes, attended the event to spread the word about its work - and also received donations.

FareShare is now working to set up regular deliveries of its surplus food to Porch Boxes, so they can help more families.

The Prestwich Food Festival event also included demonstrations on growing your own fruit and veg, homemade cake stalls and a pop-up restaurant for 200 diners.

Former professional chef Noel Goulding, who now works as a cookery tutor, organised the event, which more than 1,000 visitors attended. …
