WATCH out One Direction - there's a new boyband in town, and they have bold plans to go global.

The United are five hunky lads from five different countries who music industry bigwigs have recruited from across Europe to become a world-beating pop power.

England's representative is 21-year-old Mike Watson, from Bramhall, who has now been "united" with Gabriel from Sweden, Manuel from Germany, Step from Italy and Teus from Holland.

All five were "headhunted" by record company bosses in Norway after they trawled the internet looking for good young musicians on youtube.

Mike was in his final year of studying for a business degree at Manchester University when he got the call asking him to jet out to Oslo to audition for the band.

Although Mike admits to The Diary that the name of the band is a little ironic - considering he's a lifelong Man City fan!

He laughs: "It was a hard one to break to the family about the band name being The United - as they're all big Blues fans! …
