English Tourism Week (March 10-18) ENGLISH Tourism Week is an important initiative to showcase the value of the industry to the city. At present, it contributes Pounds 5.8bn to the local economy and supports 77,000 jobs.

We were delighted to welcome the then Manchester Central MP, Tony Lloyd, to our Visitor Information Centre in Piccadilly Gardens - which was named the best in the country by VisitEngland in May.

Diamond Jubilee visit March 23 HER Majesty's visit to Manchester as part of the Diamond Jubilee tour gave the city a chance to come together to celebrate The Queen's 60 years on the throne. The Visitor Information Centre organised special 'Regal Manchester' walking tours to tell the tale of the city's relationship with the monarch throughout the centuries and they proved incredibly popular.

Bingham Cup - Gay Rugby Tournament June 1-3 MANCHESTER has one of the largest gay communities in the UK and is a true sporting city in every sense of the word. As such, the city was an ideal host city for the Bingham Cup - the world championship of gay and inclusive rugby. The city's LGBT scene has always been one of its biggest tourism draws and the Bingham Cup in Broughton Park was a chance to showcase that to the world.

Olympic Torch Relay and Olympic Football June 23 and July 26- August 7 THE Olympic Torch procession through Manchester, Trafford, Bolton and Stockport - followed by Olympic Football fixtures at Old Trafford - was definitely a highlight of the summer season. The fact that we played host to teams including the UAE, Brazil, PRIDE POWER The Lion King the USA and Spain was especially good for Manchester as they are all priority markets that the tourist board works to promote the city."

Alicia Keys at Manchester Cathedral September 23 MTV Crashes was an opportunity to showcase Manchester's musical heritage to a worldwide audience of millions. It was an important part of our long- term ambition to bring the MTV Europe Music Awards to the city - which will further spread the word of what Manchester has to offer.

Festival of Co-operatives 2012 October 29 - November 2 THE Festival of Co-operatives was the global culmination of the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives and was a highlight of our 2012 conference calendar. …
