TREVOR Carson is determined to make his Northern Ireland dream come true after putting his international ambitions on hold for Bury's survival bid, writes BEN COLLINS.

The 24-year-old keeper has played for his country's Under-21s and 'B' team but is still waiting to make his senior debut.

He was called up for the friendly with Malta earlier this month and with ex-United keeper Roy Carroll ruled out through injury, he might have won his first cap.

Carson also had to pull out, though, after breaking a finger in Bury's home win against Doncaster just four days before.

But after a man-of-thematch display in Saturday's 2-0 home defeat by Coventry, Carson hopes to stay in Michael O'Neill's squad for next month's World Cup qualifiers at home to Russia and Israel.

"It's always been a dream of mine to play for Northern Ireland," he said. "I'd love to get my cap.

"I was in the last squad so I'm sure the manager will still be watching me. That's the only bonus from Saturday, if I keep playing well the international side will come. …
