IPEC Deal to Supply China with Testers

A FIRM which develops technology for the energy sector has secured a six-figure deal in the Far East for its latest innovation.

IPEC - whose initials stand for Independent Power Engineering Company - is to supply its new hand-held electricity testing devices to customers in China.

They are used in power stations to check equipment and to give advanced warning of power failures. The business, based at Manchester Science Parks, specialises in supplying monitoring and testing equipment to clients including BP, E.ON, Network Rail and EDF.

IPEC was already exporting to several countries in the Far East and has now struck a deal with an agent who will distribute products to Chinese electricity companies.

Managing director Colin Smith said: "We've been developing new hand-held testers for several years, and this is our first significant order."

IPEC was helped by a loan from The Co-operative Bank in Manchester.

"It's a side of the business we're keen to expand but we already had several contracts to fulfil when the order was made," said Mr Smith. …
