VINCENT Kompany has insisted that FA Cup success would constitute a good season for City despite their Premier League failings.

After overcoming Chelsea yesterday, Roberto Mancini's side are red hot favourites to beat Wigan Athletic when they meet at Wembley on May 11.

City are looking to win the cup for the second time in three years, but the captain assertively declared that victory isn't imperative in salvaging their campaign.

They have fallen short of United in the Premier League title race, but Kompany said: "It is not a question of salvaging. You never know how good your season is until the last game.

"We wanted to get trophies for our fans and bring back trophies to Manchester.

"If we can do it this season then we need to cherish it and we need to be happy about it because it is a big competition.

"You can always improve and we have got a lot of seasons to do that. …
