Roses Had to Get over Camera Shyness

GETTING back together was tricky, but The Stone Roses' John Squire says one of the hardest decision was letting the cameras in to film the famously private band.

"I had my reservations at the start (of filming) but once I sat down with Shane (Meadows, director) I knew I could trust him five minutes into the conversation," the guitarist told The Diary "I worried about putting the band under the microscope so soon after they got back together.

"I thought Shane would make a great film. I didn't realise it would be a love letter."

John was the only member of the band to stop to talk to selected members of the press, although lead singer Ian Brown spent time posing with fans and bassist Mani brought along a Clanger toy to talk to the media microphones.

The only Rose absent was drummer Reni, who went down with a bug a couple of days ago and decided not to come because he didn't want to risk 'having a couple of pints' while he was under the weather. …
