with Dr Neil Murray QI HAD a mole removed from my head which I was told was a squamous cell cancer. Is this serious? ATHIS is one of the nonmelanoma skin cancers. It is the second most common skin cancer in the UK. It's usually caused by too much sun exposure to the skin over a period of time.

It's therefore common in exposed areas, such as the head, neck, ears or hands. It usually appears as a scaly, crusty area of skin with a red area at the base.

Almost all can be cured by removal and they rarely spread. If you have a mole you are concerned about, it's important to get it checked out by your doctor.
