MACCLESFIELD 1 GRIMSBY 3 MACCLESFIELD'S faint hopes of reaching the Blue Square Bet Premier playoffs were sunk by Grimsby in a defeat that cost manager Steve King his job, writes MIKE GLENDINNING.

The 3-1 defeat left the Silkmen without any real hope of reaching the playoffs and the club's chief executive Jon Harris confirmed that King and assistant manager Pablo Asensio have had their contracts terminated, effective immediately.

The hosts drew level on 25 minutes when centreback pairing Thierry Audel and Mills combined.
