ACOUPLE whose cat had to be put down after being shot with an air rifle are pleading for witnesses to contact police.

Keith and Gillian Barlow watched in horror as their injured cat, Bob, crawled into their home in Stockport having been missing for most of the day.

At first they thought he had been hit by a car but RSPCA vets discovered he had been shot with an air rifle.

Staff discovered a ball-bearing type pellet lodged in Bob's lower stomach, which had pierced his intestine.

The pellet had caused irreparable damage to his bowel.

Keith, 53, who is his wife's carer, said: "We hadn't seen him all day, which is unusual because normally he's constantly in and out of the house.

"Then he came in and we thought he'd been knocked down, but when the vet examined him they found he had been shot with an air rifle. We think he might have been shot before. …
