METROLINK bosses have drafted in a squad of private security specialists to tackle troublemakers and snare fare dodgers on football matchdays.

The M.E.N can reveal a team of 20 or more operatives has been recruited to work on the network when United or City play at home - as well as when major events, like concerts or international cricket games, take place in Manchester.

The move was being hailed as a victory for passenger safety - and comes after a father and daughter suffered a racist attack on their way home from Old Trafford.

"It's a shame it took such an unfortunate incident to make a change, but that something positive has happened as a result is fantastic. I really do think 'It's it took an unfortu-it will make a difference."

" Now Devyani, who had sworn never again to travel on the tram on match days, is reconsidering.nate to get to make change' She added: "It might take a while to get back on the tram but I'm definitely not as apprehensive knowing there is a security presence there. It's restored my faith in Metrolink - but we are still appealing for witnesses to come forward to help find our attackers."

Palladium specialises in covert private investigations, combating fraud and chasing debts on behalf of major high street banks and law firms.

Its work on the trams will see it supply a minimum of 20 operatives, wearing uniforms and highvisibility bibs, for each fixture. …
