AFTER all the nonsense said and written about opening Premier League fixtures, we're left with a fairly predictable-looking top of the table.

The only question to be decided come May will be whether United retain the title, whether it's passed across the city to the Blues or whether the manager with the hackneyed tag of the Special One does the business and wins it with Chelsea.

The biggest surprise at the Etihad last night - when City began the new era under understated Chilean Manuel Pellegrini with a thumping 4-0 win over Newcastle - wasn't the efforts of the groundsmen who had some fun with his giant lawnmower, no what raised most eyebrows was the total transformation of the Blues nearly man Edin Dzeko.

Although he missed at least five sitters, he can still hold his head high today having made himself a certain starter and claiming the man-of-thematch award.

He played key parts in City's first two goals and, of course, they were the ones that mattered as Newcastle were completely outclassed even before they went down to 10 men following the ludicrous foul by the totally frustrated Steven Taylor. …
