POET Laureate Carol Ann Duffy was almost lost for words - after her teenage daughter landed a place in Cambridge.

The nation's favourite poet - whose work is studied in schools across the country - was beaming with pride after Ella, 18, gained top grades.

The Scottish poet, who has lived in south Manchester for over 20 years and teaches at Manchester Metropolitan University, was among the proud parents celebrating their children'' results at Manchester High School for Girls.

Ella will study education with English and drama after achieving 2A*s and an A. She said: "I am really pleased with my results, it's been hard work but worth it! The support of the teachers here has been invaluable.
