Hero M.E.N. Vendor Rescues Terrified Tot Wandering the Streets ; Boy in Tears and Calling for 'Mummy' Parents Appear Hour Later to Face Police

AHERO M.E.N. vendor rescued a frightened little boy missing from his parents for more than an hour in Manchester city centre.

The terrified child, thought to be aged around three, was found by M.E.N. distribution team leader Chris Ottewell alone on busy Market Street.

The child, who was sobbing and saying 'mummy, mummy', appeared to have wandered away from his family.

Chris dialled 999 to alert police - then kept the child safe until police arrived at his pitch near Debenhams.

But it was more than an hour before the child's parents arrived - and given a telling off by police.

Chris said: "I was at my stand when a small child who looked about three walked past in tears. He was about to cross the road so I pulled him back and took him to my stand.

"He kept saying 'mummy, mummy' so I knew straight away he was lost and phoned 999. …
