DOES Michael Gove have any idea what he's doing to the youth of today? Recently he pushed through reforms to force teenagers to re- sit exams until they pass maths and English.

I know what most of you are thinking, this will help our prospects. But forcing a child to re-do exams again and again is basically like slapping them in the face and telling them they're not good enough.

Some children may not excel in maths and English but have other amazing talents. The boy or girl who has the talent to paint a world not using words or numbers but using colours and imagination. Or the teenager who can look at a car engine and tell you everything about it.

But scrap that creativity and put them in a class where they have to work out long algebraic formulas and write lengthy essays. As if there wasn't enough pressure now we have to meet heightened expectations. …
