ATOP cycling boss has received undisclosed damages from a council after she swerved to avoid a pothole and then injured herself badly as she hit another.

Team Sky's Fran Millar, 34, was thrown from her bike in High Street in Oldham, and was knocked unconscious after she landed heavily on her face and hand.

The head of business operations at Team Sky, and sister of professional cyclist David Millar, suffered fractures to her cheek, jaw and fingers and had several teeth knocked out in the incident in May 2010.

Law firm Leigh Day said it had successfully settled a claim against Oldham council for a defect in the road.

'I feel Penny Knight, from Leigh Day, said: "It was clear that the damage to the road, which caused this crash, was a result of poor resurfacing after the road had been dug up by the council for underground work. …
