She may epitomise the archetypal Californian girl, all glossy long tresses, long limbs and sunkissed beautiful skin but the woman behind jeans label Paige Denim knows how hard it is to 'get the look'.

Paige Adams-Geller's leg lengthening, rear enhancing jeans have acquired cult status and resulted in her being called the queen of jeans. But confident and outgoing as she is now, chatting animatedly in the personal shopping area of Selfridges in Exchange Square, Manchester, Paige wasn't always so comfortable in her own skin.

After moving to New York to model, former beauty queen Paige battled anorexia in her angst-ridden efforts to be skinny. It was the extreme culmination of an eating disorder that plagued her following the painful realisation of her 'chubby child' status when growing up in Alaska.

The designers want the clothes to really hang off you as if you're a clothes hanger. It's very tough. I'm 5ft 8 and I dropped to 100lbs(just over seven stone). It wasn't until she moved into the more forgiving world of fit modelling for high end jeans brands, that she realised how the cut and shading of fabric, the positioning of seams and pockets can make such a difference.

This realisation sowed business seeds in her mind that would later come to fruition with the founding of her premium jeans business in 2004.

Today, in her early 40s, and weighing under nine and a half stones, Paige is still very slim but healthy looking, sickeningly so!

She has a face and figure women half her age would envy, but is disarmingly sweet and down to earth.

Paige reckons her jeans are all about making women feel good about themselves. And I have to admit when I tried on a few pairs I miraculously shed half a stone and my legs grew about six inches!

Paige, who lives with husband Michael Geller and their four dogs, and is step mom to Michael's two children (the family all work for the Los Angeles-based business), laughs: That's exactly what I'm trying to achieve. …
