ACONSUMER goods testing firm hopes to double in size by winning worldwide work on the back of strict new European laws.

Microbiological SoluS tions Limited screens and tests cosmetics and toiletries to make sure they comply with EU regulations before they are brought to market.

The Bury company, which also provides consultancy services and carries out related audits, has already grown from having seven staff to 15 in a year.

It hopes to double sales to break the Pounds 1m barrier for the first time by the end of next year thanks to a new EU law coming into play tomorrow.

The Cosmetic Regulation requires all businesses wanting to sell cosmetic products in the common market to have a 'responsible person.' That refers to an individual or company that verifies the items to be sold comply with various European standards.

MSL has already been appointed by major cosmetics manufacturers in America and south east Asia and is now targeting other parts of the world. Managing director Angela Davies, pictured, said: "We got our first international customer just before Christmas. …
