Doctor's Lucky Escape as BMW Bursts into Flames ; Driver Was on Way to Work When Fire Started Terrified Driver Pulled over Just in Time

ADOCTOR had a lucky escape after her car dramatically burst into flames on her way to work.

Sarah Horton, 30, from Worsley, was driving to work at a surgery in Leeds when the bonnet of her BMW started smoking yesterday morning.

She came off the M62 at the Prestwich junction and pulled over just as the car set on fire.

She said: "It was very scary. The steering just suddenly went funny and there was lots of smoke.

"I immediately pulled off at the closest junction, and it got so bad I just pulled over.

"I couldn't believe it was on fire."

Firefighters were scrambled to the scene in Whitefield where they used a hose reel to battle the blaze.

Dr Horton added: "I feel very lucky, it's scary to think I could have been in the car when it caught fire.

"I have no idea what's wrong with it, I've never been in this kind of situation before in my life."

Dr Horton said she had been unaware of any previous problems with the car.

A spokeswoman from Greater Manchester Fire Service confirmed that firefighters had been called to the incident. …
