ACONMAN duped a woman in her 90s out of Pounds 130 after telling her she had a tree growing in her chimney.

The bogus workman knocked at the 92-year-old woman's home claiming that she needed the tree removing and offering to do the work for Pounds 150.

But when she refused the man said his son - who the witness did not see at any point - was already on the roof and had completed the work, forcing her to hand over Pounds 130.

PC Bev Trueman, said: "I cannot believe that someone could be so coldhearted and shameless as to dupe and steal from a woman in her 90s.

"Once the victim declined to have any work done the offender claimed it had been carried out and effectively intimidated her into handing over her money.

"Pounds 130 would be missed by anyone but it is a significant amount of money for this victim to lose.

"If anyone has information about the offender or other information that can assist I would urge them to call us. …
