F1 Lewis Hamilton is hoping for a change of luck after suffering his first retirement of the season in the Japanese Grand Prix.

From third on the grid behind an all-Red Bull front row spearheaded for a change by Mark Webber, Hamilton made the merest of contact with the left edge with Sebastian Vettel's front wing and was forced to retire after only seven laps.

Vettel (pictured) went on to win the Grand Prix to open up a 90- point lead over Ferrari's Fernando Alonso with only 100 still available as he closed in on his fourth world title.

"The start was such a good feeling," said Hamilton.

"But I had such a light touch with Sebastian, I didn't even notice it until I got to turn one.

"After that the tyre blew. I tried my best to get the car round, but the tyre disintegrated and destroyed the floor. After the pit stop the car was pulling to the right and I had very low downforce so I was struggling and I had to stop. …
