I RECENTLY needed a new prescription for an item of medication prescribed by a hospital consultant.

A letter was sent from the hospital to my GPs' surgery to inform them of details of my treatment. In order to save wasting the doctor's time, I telephoned that surgery to ask if a prescription could be left for me. I was told that I needed a phone consultation with a GP, which I agreed to and it took place the same day. The GP agreed to leave a prescription on reception for me to collect.

As I was working and unable to collect the same day, I went to the surgery on Saturday morning to collect my prescription.

When I walked in the two receptionists were talking and carried on talking for some time before acknowledging my presence.

I gave my name and said I was there to collect a prescription which the doctor had left for me, but I was told that they could not give out prescriptions on a Saturday. …
