HE has sold more records than Noel Gallager and Gary Barlow. And he's giving whippersnappers One Direction a run for their money.

Mark Hadfield may not be as instantly recognisable as Harry Styles and pals, but he is the man behind one of biggest pop songs in America.

Eighteen months ago Mark, from Failsworth, penned the soaring dancefloor ballad Let Me Love You with fellow musician Mike Di Scala and it went on to become a major hit on both sides of the pond for American R&B singer Ne-Yo.

Last week the 40-year-old father-of-one received a prestigious BMI songwriters' award for co-writing the track which was number one in the UK and had the most radio play in the USA than any other song in the past year.

He said: "It's amazing to get such a shout out for somebody from Manchester. This is my first record to have success in America. …
