ABAN on dogs travelling on the Metrolink could be lifted after hundreds of people signed a petition.

Although dogs are allowed on buses and trains in Greater Manchester, they are banned on the tram system.

Dog owner Phil Bradby set up a Facebook group to campaign against the ban earlier this month. A few days later, fellow campaigner Kirstie Beasley, 38, launched a petition in attempt to change the existing byelaw.

The petition attracted 400 signatures.

Now Metrolink bosses have agreed to review the ban. It is expected to be discussed at a meeting next month.

Mr Bradby set up the 'Campaign to Allow Dogs to Travel on Manchester Trams' on Facebook after being stopped from travelling with his miniature schnauzer, Luke.

Mr Bradby, from Chorlton, said: "I was in Didsbury, had bought a ticket and as I was just about to step on when I noticed a sign which said no dogs.

"I had to ask for a refund which they gave me. Having waited so long for it to be built and supported it all the way, I was so disappointed when I found I couldn't use it. …
