MORE than Pounds 1m of fake luxury goods have been seized in a dramatic Christmas crackdown on counterfeiting. Three waves of raids have uncovered thousands of items presented to festive shoppers as high-end labels - including Jimmy Choo and Chanel.

The huge operation aimed to disrupt dodgy traders in the Strangeways area of Cheetham Hill.

In the first trading standards swoop two addresses - on Bury New Road and Harris Street - were raided, uncovering Pounds 1m worth of clothing, perfume and jewellery. The fakes included Barbour jackets, Superdry coats and Ugg boots, along with Beats by Dr Dre headphones.

According to officials, nearby traders suspected of also selling counterfeit goods shut up shop during the operation.

The following day police and officers from Cheshire East council led a swoop on lorries and vans suspected of bringing fake goods to Strangeways - seizing Pounds 9,000 in cash and more luxury sports brands worth around Pounds 100,000. …
