SWAPPING Christmas gifts will be extra special this year for Victoria Ord - as she knows how it feels to be too ill to even open a present. The 36-year-old nurse, from Stockport, spent December 25, 2011, helpless in hospital having been struck down with deadly malaria. She had only come out of a three-week coma on Christmas Eve and was in hospital until mid-January. Victoria returned to work at Stepping Hill 10 months later, but the mental scars of her near- death experience - and continuing recovery - meant last year's Christmas was also a struggle.

But this year the mum-of-one is ready to look forward and cannot wait for traditional family festive fun. Victoria said: "In hospital I wasn't even aware it was Christmas. "I couldn't eat or drink and I missed my daughter as I didn't want her to see me like that.

Last Christmas was strange.

I was still confused and the year since has been about rebuilding - now it's about looking forward.

I'm feeling much more positive and am looking forward to Christmas and enjoying time with the family. …
