DETAILED plans for a new south Manchester swimming pool have gone on display.

Hough End leisure centre is to be built within the next 18 months as the council looks to replace Withington and Chorlton baths.

Earmarked for playing fields off Princess Parkway, the centre will also feature a gym, sauna, steam room, squash court and dance studios.

The plans are now on display - including artist's impressions - at Withington and Chorlton libraries. Drop-in sessions are being held so residents can speak to the project's team.

They take place at Chorlton today between 5pm and 8pm, followed by one at Withington next Monday, December 9, between 3pm and 7pm.

Coun Rosa Battle, Manchester council's executive member for culture and leisure, said: "We want to create the best possible leisure facilities for Manchester residents and make sure they meet the needs of the local community.

"The plans for the new leisure centre were based on what residents told us they required. …
