.We're looking for old friends from the Ardwick and Moss Side area who know my mam Doris Saidy.

We are having a party to celebrate her 91st birthday tonight (December 7) at 7.30pm.

The party is at the Ritz in Ardwick, just behind the Union Club.

It would make her day to see some of the people she has known over the years, living and working in the area, bringing up nine children.

If you cannot make it please pass this message on, as I want to make it a really great night tonight for my mam.

? Did you ever attend the very old and lovely St Mary's Church on Church Lane in Prestwich (quite often used as location for filming of Coronation Street)? You may recall former rectors of the church such as Canon Paton-Williams, Canon Ratledge, Rev Tom Evans, Canon Frank Bibby and Rev Bryan Hackett.

You may have been married there, been in the scouts or guides, or attended the parish school.

We always welcome former members of the congregation together with those who are new to the district, but particularly more so as we enter Christmastide.

We are currently awaiting the appointment of a new Priest in Charge but we have the pleasure of wonderful visiting clergy for our services.

The highlights for this season will be Sunday, December 22 at 6pm for a Festival of Nine Lessons and Nine Carols which will be led by Rev David Foss together with full choir and anthems under the direction of organist and choirmaster Garry Hulme. This will be a truly uplifting service to prepare us for Midnight Mass, at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve. The service will be led by the Bishop of Bolton - Rev Chris Edmondson.

We will celebrate Christmas Day with Sung Eucharist at 10.30am with Rev Ralph Mallinson presiding.

Join us for any or all these wonderful celebrations. Fred E Plant (Church Sacristan) Tel: 0161 766 4510 .

I have been researching my family history for several years and have made significant progress.

There was a family tragedy in 1927 in which three children, cousins of my grandmother Helena Ellis, died together with an older woman whom I believe was their nanny. …
