FIRST there was a statue, then there was a Hollywood film... and now a book will honour cult funnyman Frank Sidebottom.

The papermache-headed comedian - the alter ego of Timperley's Chris Sievey - will be the subject of a new book written by his pal Jon Ronson. Acclaimed journalist Ronson, who has also penned the script for a star-studded feature film inspired by Sievey's creation, has revealed he plans to release a book telling the true story behind Frank Sidebottom. Sievey died in 2010 after losing a battle with cancer. The film Frank stars heartthrob Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllenhaal and is loosely based on the comic character's 'life'.

It will be premiered at the USA's Sundance Festival in January. But Ronson, who played keyboard in the Frank Sidebottom Band, says he also plans to write a more factual account of his time with the Timperley comic. Writing on his blog, he said: "In the late 1980s I was the keyboard player in the Frank Sidebottom Band.
