DAVID Flitcroft has challenged Daniel Nardiello to become a leader to his Bury players after snatching a last-gasp equaliser against Scunthorpe.

Nardiello struck in stoppage time to salvage a 2-2 draw on Boxing Day and ensure the Shakers return to Gigg Lane in high spirits for tomorrow's visit of York.

The 31-year-old striker now has four goals from six starts since joining on loan from Rotherham and manager Flitcroft believes he will be crucial to his bid to lead Bury away from the bottom of League Two.

"The one thing that Danny has done - being a Rotherham player at Bury - is be committed to the Bury cause," he said.

"I was always going to leave him on because he does have quality, and in the last minute he turned up and scored what could be a priceless goal for us."

Bury currently have six players on loan but can only play five in the same game so talks are ongoing over a permanent switch in January. …
