Janet's Portrait Proves to Be the Pick of the Pics ; Double Joy for Photographer as She Wins Image of the Year in Two Separate Categories at Awards

ANEW photographer beat othousands of competitors to win an international award.

Janet Broughton won the Guild of Photographers's Image of the Year Award at their annual awards event.

e photographer was delighted that her work had been recognised.

She said: "It was a shock.

It's hard to judge it when you have done it yourself."

e 48-year-old was overwhelmed when she found out that she had won the prize in both the Judges' Choice and Members' Choice categories. e winning black-andwhite portrait featured Lydia Robinson, aged nine, and her miniature schnauzer, Zac, who both stared at the camera.

"Zac's just missed out on Crufts a couple of times. He was described as a bit of a failure to me but I don't think so."

e photographer wanted to show a child with an intense engagement with the camera.

Janet said: "I wanted to do some children's portraits that were a little bit dierent.

"Lydia is a young aspiring model and proved to be a perfect subject. She had the right kind of look. …
