DANNY Philliskirk's goal gave Oldham a priceless win to edge them closer to League One survival with victory over in-form Crawley.

Lee Johnson praised his side for their 'gritty' performance as they established a four-point cushion above the relegation zone.

"I thought a lot of the lads were gritty," said the Latics boss.

"We had the three in midfield that just kept running about and putting them under pressure.

"We earned, probably with that grit, more opportunities than we took and that's what's frustrating.

"I don't think my heart-strings can handle any more 1-0 wins or any more late goals against us."

After an even opening, Philliskirk broke the deadlock in the 19th minute.

A flowing counterattack ended up at the feet of the 22-year-old striker, who turned his marker before firing an unstoppable shot past Crawley keeper Paul Jones.

David Worrall almost made it 2-0 before half-time, but his improvised effort on the turn dribbled just wide. …
