Friends Reunited for Show of the Year ; Mouth-Watering Crolla vs Murray Clash Lined-Up for Quigg Undercard

SCOTT Quigg will defend his world super-bantamweight title at the Manchester Arena in April - and MEN Sport can exclusively reveal that negotiations have already begun over a potentially epic clash between Anthony Crolla and John Murray on the undercard.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is desperate to pair up the lightweight rivals and former training partners in what would be a mouthwatering derby.

Olympic gold-medallist Anthony Joshua is also scheduled to be on the April 19 show when Quigg will defend his WBA belt against mandatory challenger Nehomar Cermeno.

But Crolla-Murray would be the standout contest on the card - if agreement can be reached between both camps.

We revealed in November that promoters Matchroom were keen on the all-Manchester battle, with Murray a guest of Hearn for Carl Froch's super-middleweight bout with George Groves at the Arena.

He knows there would be huge interest in the domestic match-up, with the winner likely to face WBO champion Ricky Burns later in the year.

Crolla is still due to fight on the undercard of Burns' defence against Terrence Crawford in Glasgow next month.

He is also set to fight at the Arena the following month, with British champion Martin Gethin another possible opponent.

But Hearn would prefer to get the WBO intercontinental champion in the ring with former British and European titleholder Murray.

As yet no agreement has been reached - and Crolla's trainer Joe Gallagher says the 27-yearold from New Moston is focused on earning a world title shot.

"Anthony is looking for the winner of Burns v Crawford," he said. "Everyone acknowledges that he is the number two lightweight in Britain right now. "Burns is the priority.

If Burns wins against Crawford then Anthony has got a world title fight.

"If that doesn't happen then one of the options is a possible domestic showdown in the summer. …
