Big-Hearted Roller Derby Community Saves the Day ; Community Comes to Group's Aid after Pounds 1,500-Worth of Equipment Was Stolen in Raid

THE roller derby community has come to the rescue of Oldham's Rainy City Roller Girls after a burglary.

More than Pounds 1,500 worth of equipment was stolen from the Thunderdome, on King Street, after thieves broke in through the roof just days before the first home game of the season.

Cancelling was not an option as the girls were also playing host to the only European clinic for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association which flew in especially from America.

But a call for help on social media saw skaters from across the country rally together and make sure the weekends tournament still went ahead.

Head of PR Emma 'Harlot Jo Ransom' Lyskava said: "We didn't know what we could do so got the message out to everyone in the league.

"We were inundated with help.

"People couldn't believe it had happened and other leagues around the country got in touch to see if they could help. …
