Football Star Aims to Build on Success ; Suarez Invests in Building

PREMIER League stars including Luis Suarez and Santi Cazorla could be set to become the newest landlords in Manchester city centre after clubbing together to invest in a former university campus.

Liverpool's Suarez and Cazorla are joined by Arsenal and Liverpool team-mates Lucas Leiva, Mikel Arteta and Jose Enrique as directors of Capital and Centric Investments LLP, which has been shortlisted to transform Manchester Metropolitan's Aytoun Street complex.

The footballers are understood to have put their rivalries aside to contribute towards a Pounds 50m investment pot which will be used to acquire potential residential developments across the country. The campus closed in 2012 when MMU's business school relocated to a new site off Oxford Road and would be converted to 400 new apartments and a restaurant and bar if the bid gets a go-ahead.

MMU has invested Pounds 350m in new offices, classrooms, and lecture buildings, including the new Birley Fields campus in Hulme, adjacent to its existing buildings on Oxford Road. …
