WE all know yoga is good for us. It can relax you, it can get you fit, it helps strengthen muscles and helps you look lean and get flexible. And these days you can easily fit a session in before work, even during your lunch hour, or you can de-stress and stretch out after a stressful day at the office. We tried out three city centre yoga practices. Express Yoga THIS is new to the city centre and has been launched by former Hacienda DJ Matt Ryan. The 45- minute class runs six times a week.

The sessions, which take place at Studio 25 in the Northern Quarter, provide the benefits of a 90-minute yoga class but in less time. This class is perfect for beginners, and they don't call it Express for no reason. I took a Saturday morning class before heading out for some shopping and brunch and found it quite easy to fit into my morning schedule. Express Yoga is based on the Ashtanga yoga tradition, and the sequence involves 50 postures to build stamina, strength and flexibility in as little time as possible. The moves are easy to follow and I didn't find myself looking at the tutor every few seconds to see what she was doing. The postures include downward facing dog, sun salutations, forward bends and triangle pose. The one thing to remember in this class is to synchronise the moves with your breathing. It is not for the faint-hearted and takes a lot of willpower to stay the full 90 minutes, but expect to work off between 500-700 calories. Unlike traditional yoga, this version was created by hot yoga innovator Bikram Choudury and includes 26 postures and two breathing exercises performed twice in a single 90-minute class. …
