JOHN Murray reckons a new career as a coach will ensure his return to the ring is a success.

The former British and European lightweight champion faces Anthony Crolla at the Phones 4U Arena on April 19 in his bid to move a step closer to a world title.

But the 29-year-old from Levenshulme is splitting his time between preparing for that clash and developing a second career as a trainer. On Saturday night he will be in the corner as Chris Conwell and Andy Kremner make their professional debuts at Wythenshawe Forum.

Murray is guiding their passage into the pro ranks - but believes his role as mentor is benefitting his own fight career and has forced him to be more dedicated.

He said: "I have to lead by example. I won't cheat myself because I don't want the lads to do it.

"I'm stricter and more focused. In the past I'd eat clean during the week, but cheat on the weekend and have a curry. …
