SCHOOLS across Salford have been put on alert after a man tried to snatch a child off the street.

Police have sent a warning to both primary and high schools following the incident in Higher Broughton.

A 12-year-old girl was walking along Camp Street at 7.45am on Wednesday when a man approached her. He said 'going to school are you?' and then grabbed the child's arm and attempted to drag her with him.

She managed to push him off her and get away.

A witness said on Facebook the man may have been wearing a Mackenzie-brand hoody.

The girl was on her way to a nearby high school and was left upset but unhurt.

The man was aged about 20, of mixed race, skinny, 5ft 5in, and had black hair.

He was wearing denim jeans and a dark hooded top.

A police spokeswoman said: "If anyone has details of similar incidents, or information about this one, we would urge them to contact us using the 101 number or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. …
