Belle Vue Play the Payne Game as Reade Is Replaced in Side

BELLE Vue have made the early-season decision to bring in a Joe Screen prodigy to help the club's play-off push.

Low-scoring Ben Reade has been replaced by Stoke Potters rider Lee Payne, who was previously undrafted to an Elite League club.

Reade was unable to make things work for him in the early part of the season, forcing the Rentruck Aces management to make a change. Payne was ranked lower than Reade in the grade list, meaning the Aces could swoop to bring in the replacement straight away.

Payne, who will wear no.7, rides for Stoke in the National League after making the switch from motocross 12 months ago.

He is mentored by Belle Vue and British speedway legend Screen.

"It is an amazing feeling to be given the opportunity," said Payne. "I couldn't believe it when I got the phone call.

"I've not been riding speedway for long, but I will give 110 per cent - it is all I can do. …
