NAVIGATING beauty hall make-up counters can be a bit of a headache - even for those of us who have spent the best part of 25 years slathering our faces in every new foundation, blusher and miracle eyebag remover that comes to the market.

Many of us end up sticking to the same old products we've used Catherine for years, or splash the cash on ill-advised glittery eyeshadows or too-red lipsticks that are consigned to the bottom of the make-up bag forever.

So having a make-up expert at the heart of it all, a bit like a personal shopper in the clothes department, is a stroke of cosmetic genius.

Selfridges has managed to bag the talents of celebrity make-up artist Armand Beasley as their Bespoke Beauty Expert at its Exchange Square store to do just that.

He's in store for the next few weeks as part of Selfridges' ongoing Beauty Project, where you can book a personal consultation and tell him all of your make-up woes.

And because Armand is completely impartial, he can advise on the best products for you, as well as giving you his best tips on application and styles of make-up depending on your age and skin type.

It costs Pounds 75 for the consultation - but that's redeemable against products purchased in store. So if you're in the market for a couple of new make-up products anyway, it's certainly worth it. As a consumer it's hard to know what to choose that will suit you.

Shobna "I'm here to be able to talk to individuals about everything from skincare to make-up and even their fragrance, to make the right choices for them. And anyone can come along, regardless of age."

Having known Armand for a few years, I know he's one of the most in-demand make-up artists on the showbiz circuit.

He's worked with the world's most beautiful women - the likes of Coronation Street stars Catherine Tyldesley and Shobna Gulati and Hollywood stars Goldie Hawn and Jane Seymour.

And while those beautiful ladies might not exactly need much help in the beauty stakes, Armand's success is bringing out the best in whoever it is he's working his magic on.

So it was with some excitement that I headed into his special studio in the basement at Selfridges to see what magic he could work on me. …
