Some Alumni Support Totino-Grace President Who Resigned after Revealing Gay Relationship

After Totino-Grace President William Hudson revealed he is in a same-sex relationship and then resigned his position, some alumni of the Catholic high school in Fridley expressed support for him and for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students at the school.

A petition and open letter of support, written by Sara Graham, had 173 signers Wednesday morning. It was was publicized on the Facebook page of LGBTA Alumni of Totino-Grace, which was created Tuesday night after news of Hudson's resignation.

Hudson had informed school officials of his relationship, then tendered his resignation. It was accepted.

In a statement, Hudson said:

Though heartbreaking and painful, I must say that it is freeing to be open about the most important thing in my life and to live an authentic life. For over 20 years I have placed service of the Catholic Church ahead of my family. I am excited to now be able focus on my 2 children and my partner of 18 years as my first priority. …
