Bentley Appoints New Agency Head

MONTGOMERY | Gov. Robert Bentley has dipped into the ranks of the House of Representatives members he served with for the sixth time to name a state agency head.

Bentley appointed state Rep. Elwyn Thomas, R-Oneonta, as executive director of the Alabama Manufactured Housing Commission. The appointment, made Thursday, is effective Sept. 1.

"The governor knew I had been in real estate a lot of years and had done real estate deals and he asked me if I'd be interested in the job," Thomas said Monday.

Bentley served with Thomas in the House for two terms before being elected governor in 2010. Thomas has been in the House for 15 years. He succeeds Jim Sloan, who retired July 1.

In late July, Bentley named state Rep. Blaine Galliher,

R-Rainbow City, as his new legislative director.

Bentley's office said the AMHC is the state regulatory agency that enforces installation program standards and modular program construction standards. The AMHC also regulates the manufactured housing industry in the state with an emphasis on compliance and consumer protection and helps communities obtain safe and accessible storm shelters, Bentley said. …
