EDITORIAL: Malone a Good Fit for County Circuit Judge

Gov. Robert Bentley wasted little time in appointing Charles Malone to the open Tuscaloosa County Circuit Judgeship. We see no reason that he should have delayed the choice. It was a wise decision.

This in no way should be construed as a slight to Allen May and Daniel Pruet, who were the other two candidates for the position recommended by the Tuscaloosa County Judicial Commission. Both were qualified and may have opportunities to serve in the future.

But Malone has broad experience and served honorably as a circuit judge in Tuscaloosa for 10 years, from 2000-2010. His experience will be put to good use in Tuscaloosa County, a busy circuit that needs to move cases through the system efficiently. After only a two- year absence, Malone is familiar with the local court system and the people involved.

Malone left the bench to become Bentley's chief of staff after Bentley was elected governor in 2010. Bentley had a long, trusting relationship with Malone that he felt would be invaluable in Montgomery. …
