RECRUITING: Top Alabama Targets Shine at Rivals Challenge

The Rivals Five-Star Challenge took place in Chicago over the weekend, with 104 of the top football prospects in the country participating in the prestigious event at Soldier Field. The University of Alabama also picked up a commitment.

Three players who are committed to Alabama participated in the Five-Star Challenge: Bo Scarbrough, a Rivals100 athlete from Tuscaloosa County High School, Shaun Dion Hamilton, a Rivals100 linebacker from Carver High in Montgomery, and Zach Whitley, a Rivals100 linebacker from North Shore High in Galena Park, Texas. Scarbrough measured 6-foot-2, 236 pounds and worked at receiver throughout the event.

Several of Alabama's top targets competed in the camp, including the nation's No. 1 prospect, Da'Shawn Hand, a five-star defensive end from Woodbridge, Va., and Marlon Humphrey, a five-star cornerback from Hoover High.

Hand was voted the top defensive lineman, and Humphrey the top defensive skills player for their performances at the two-day camp. Humphrey will visit Alabama for an unofficial visit this week. He listed Alabama, Florida State and South Carolina as his top three schools. Hand will return to Tuscaloosa on July 14 for an unofficial visit. He is expected to spend a few days with the Alabama coaching staff.

Damien Mama, a Rivals100 offensive tackle from St. John Bosco High in Bellflower, Calif., was the top offensive lineman at the camp, which also featured Alabama targets Damian Prince, a five- star tackle from Bishop McNamara High in Forestville, Md.; Demetrius Knox, a Rivals100 tackle from All Saints Episcopal School in Fort Worth, Texas; and Josh Casher, a four-star center and Auburn commitment from St. Paul's Episcopal in Mobile.

Mama hopes to visit Tuscaloosa in July and plans to take an official visit to Alabama for the LSU game in November. He is good friends with Viane Talamaivao, a four-star offensive guard and Alabama commitment from Centennial High in Corona, Calif. Prince and Knox will visit Alabama in July.
