Druid City Garden Project Expects to Sell out Event

It's probably no surprise that the Druid City Garden Project knows how to grow. Last year's inaugural Garden Party was such a hit that it burst out of bed.

"We did it last year at the (L&N) Train Station," said Lindsay Turner, executive director of the Druid City Garden Project. "It was such an overwhelming success; we sold out the event in advance and had to turn away a line that wrapped around the building."

That venue's capacity is 350. So this Sunday's 2013 version moves to the River Market, across from the Tuscaloosa Public Library on Jack Warner Parkway, in anticipation of selling 400 to 500 tickets for a meeting between 10 restaurateurs and 10 farmers to produce an all-local smorgasbord.

The number of restaurants and farmers grew from about seven last year, and there will also be local beer from the Druid City Brewing Co., which will introduce Hot Pepper Beer, made from hot peppers grown in the University Place Elementary School garden. …
