Season Is New, Goal the Same for Stillman Basketball

A clean slate provides opportunities for new goals and achievements. The Stillman College men's basketball team anticipates that moment for the opening of the 2013-14 season, which arrives today.

The Tigers closed out last season with an 18-9 record, finishing second in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West Division with a 12-5 mark. Stillman advanced to the second round of the SIAC tournament, losing to Paine.

They play North Alabama at noon today in Huntsville in the UAH Invitational.

Coach Michael Grant said he was pleased with the performance of a team with a shortened lineup last season.

"We fell short of the 20 (wins) we wanted to reach, but we ended with a great year, with us losing four 6-foot-7 players," Grant said.

With a gap in the Tigers' big man category, Grant said it caused his team to play small ball.

The Tigers used that to their advantage in moving up and down the floor and finished No. 1 in scoring offense in the SIAC at 79. …
