Arkansas Holds off Kansas State Notebook

Joe Adams had his fourth punt return for a touchdown this season and No. 7 Arkansas matched a school record with its 11th victory, beating No. 11 Kansas State, 29-16, in the Cotton Bowl Friday night at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

All-Southeaster Conference quarterback Tyler Wilson threw two touchdown passes, including a 9-yarder to Kobi Hamilton with four minutes left in the third quarter after Kansas State (10-3) scored 16 consecutive points.

Adams' 51-yard return early in the second quarter gave the Razorbacks (11-2) a 10-0 lead before they even gained a first down. It was the first punt return for a touchdown in the Cotton Bowl in 51 years.

Arkansas' only losses were to No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama, the SEC West rivals who will play Monday in the Bowl Championship Series national title game.

OREGON

Running back LaMichael James is skipping his senior year and declaring himself eligible for the NFL draft. James, a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2010, said he has not hired an agent. A 5-foot- 9, 195-pound All-American, James rushed for a school-record 1,805 yards this season despite missing two games with a dislocated right elbow. He led Division I-A with an average of 150.4 yards rushing per game. James is Oregon's career leader in yards rushing with 5,082. He is the first Pacific-12 Conference player to have three consecutive 1,500-yard seasons. In Oregon's 45-38 Rose Bowl victory Jan. 2 against Wisconsin, James rushed for 159 yards and a touchdown.

ARIZONA STATE

Already committed to play basketball at Gonzaga, Brock Osweiler made the difficult decision to instead play football at Arizona State. Three years later, Osweiler found himself with another choice to make -- and again decided to leave. Osweiler declared for the NFL and will skip his senior season at Arizona State, leaving after one of the best seasons by a quarterback in the program's history. …
