This nation is not run by the clergy, not subservient to the pope and the Catholic Church. We do not get our laws from ministers, mullahs, etc. Our president doesn't have a means test for getting elected. Our government is secular, in that it is a representative government protecting any and all to worship as we see fit, or not at all. Our representatives do not have to be members of the clergy of any faith.

There are those who questioned why we have on our money "In God We Trust." Unfortunately, it is because not enough people spoke up at the time. It was not so when our country was founded. And, unfortunately, not enough people are speaking up as members of this society are insistent that we must bring religion into our politics. Whether it be about abortion (which most people believe should be legal) or concerning gay marriage (which a majority of people support), the Christian portion of our population has kept their noses in people's lives where they should not belong and forced their beliefs to become law. …
