Penn Hills Mother, Son Killed by Gunman

A mother and son died early Tuesday after a gunman shot them in their house in Penn Hills after he argued with the son's friend.

Angela Proctor, 51, was pronounced dead just after 1 a.m. in the back bedroom of the home she rented on Westwood Road. Her son, Manning Proctor, 22, died about two hours later at UPMC Presbyterian.

A 19-year-old friend of Mr. Proctor's, who was living with him and his mother, was wounded.

Allegheny County homicide detectives believe a dispute between the 19-year-old and the gunman, possibly involving other visitors to the ramshackle house, led to the shooting.

Police are not naming the wounded man, whom they had yet to interview Tuesday because he was recovering from surgery.

"He's our witness," Sgt. Scott Scherer said.

Neighbors told police they heard loud arguing shortly before 1 a.m., but police aren't sure what the fight was about.

Based on evidence in the house, detectives believe that the argument broke out in the back bedroom. …
