Duquesne Man Sentenced to Nearly 4 Years for Cocaine

A Duquesne cocaine dealer who sought to portray himself to a judge as "not a violent person" was confronted at sentencing Monday with a 13-year-old video in which he beat and threatened another man and abused him with a broom handle.

Orlando Cobbs, 32, of Duquesne last week wrote to U.S. District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose, asking to have state and federal sentences run concurrently in light of his lack of convictions for crimes of violence. Mr. Cobbs' girlfriend also wrote to the judge declaring him "a good-hearted and fun-loving man," and his sister wrote in calling him a "great brother."

Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy L. Johnston, though, introduced testimony regarding a 1999 video, taken when Mr. Cobbs was 19. The video was not shown in court but was described in testimony and documents, and submitted into evidence.

In it, Mr. Cobbs and another man stripped the victim naked, beat him, appeared to sodomize him with a broomstick, pointed loaded guns at him, beat him in the face with a belt and kneed him in the face or chest. …
